To be or not to be, that’s the water thing -- A Regulating System of The Fish Tank’s Water Quality

Description: Beginner fish keepers often feel discouraged when their fish die due to their inability to control the aquarium's water quality. Water temperature, flow rate, hardness, conductivity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH are key factors that affect water quality and the safety of the fish.

While there are many water quality testing devices available for aquariums, most require manual operation and cannot provide continuous monitoring or automatic alerts in case of abnormal water quality. This leaves aquarium owners unaware of their aquarium's safety when they forget to check the water quality regularly or are away from home. To address this issue, we have developed an automated and sustainable water quality monitoring system that continuously monitors key environmental factors such as water temperature, pH, and ammonia levels. The system alerts the owner in case of any abnormality, ensuring that the water quality meets the ideal standards. After conducting a survey, we found that many citizens have experienced the frustration of losing their fish. To prevent this from happening and improve the survival rate of fish, we decided to address the problem at its root. As we did not find any similar devices available on the market or online, we decided to design a device using Arduino to remind citizens to pay attention to water quality issues. The device is equipped with a turbidity sensor, an electric liquid feeding device for nitrifying bacteria, and a signal light for alerts. This helps to reduce the concentration of ammonia and nitrite in the water and reminds people to change the water regularly, thereby protecting the lives of small fish. Understanding the factors that affect water quality in an aquarium is crucial for maintaining a healthy environment for fish. Water temperature, flow rate, hardness, conductivity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH are all key factors that affect the safety and well-being of fish. Regular testing and maintenance are necessary to ensure that the water quality is at the ideal level for the fish. In conclusion, our automated and sustainable water quality monitoring system addresses the issue of manual testing and lack of continuous monitoring. With this system in place, we can help aquarium owners maintain a healthy environment for their fish, reduce the incidence of fish deaths, and ensure that their fish remain healthy and happy. By understanding the factors that affect water quality and taking appropriate measures to maintain it, beginner fish keepers can create a thriving aquarium environment for their fish to live in.
